In preliminary pharmacological studies this herb is found to have a vasodilatory ef- fect on coronary vessels, mild hy-potensive property and a non-specific antispas- modic effect on smooth muscles. Further studies reveal that these oils possess a mild tranquilizing effect of short duration.
The root stalk of Hedichium Spicatum is useful in local inflammations, nausea, asthma, bronchitis, hiccups and in pain. The rhizome of the plant is said to be carmi- native, stimulant and a tonic. It has been described as useful, especially as an ant asthmatic agent. Clinical trials have been conducted which have shown promising results. It counteracts bad mouth taste and smell.
