Medicinal uses:
It has pungent, astringent, diuretic, germicidal, vesicant and abortifacient properties. It overcomes flatu- lence, oedema, piles, AARAM, worms, diseases due to Vata and Kapha, haemorrhoids, and colic.
The roots of Plumbgo Zeylanica are acrid, astringent, thermogenic, anathematic, expectorant, anti- inflammatory, abortifacient, alterant, antiperiodic, carminative, digestive, sudorific, narcotic, gastric and nervous stimulant and rejuvenating. It is useful in dyspepsia, bronchitis, helminthiasis, elephantiasis, chronic and intermittent fever, leprosy, leucadermascabies, hepatosplenomegaly, amenorrhoea, and odon- talgia, vitiated conditions of vata, kapha and anaemia.
Home remedies:
This herb is an appetizer and should be given in powder form in the dose of 1-2 gm along with 5 gm pow- der of Mustaka in loss of appetite, indigestion and diarrhea. Massage oil, prepared with Chitraka is very beneficial in joint disorders like Sandhivata, Amavata, etc. Its decoction in the dose of 5 – 10 ml. should be given in urinary stone. |
